Apples are good and so are french fries. What do these two have in common? Absolutely nothing. Here’s the reason I’m bringing it up, though. There IS logic to my mad chatter, I promise.

In trying to come up with fun things for my kids’ lunches recently, I pulled out this crinkle cutting veggie tool that I bought 5 years ago. Hadn’t used it but once on a carrot in all that time.

It looked like the perfect contraption for a little foodtime experiment and of course, playing with food is my wheelhouse. It was easy and my kids loved it. You should give it a whirl, too–I bet it would earn you cool lunch lady points!

HOW TO:

  • ⭐️ Cut a washed apple in half using a regular kitchen knife
  • ⭐️ Place 1/2 apple face down on cutting board (don’t cut out the core out yet) then press the crinkle cutter through the apple, creating 1/2″ thick slices.
  • ⭐️ Lay each piece down on its side & you’ll notice they’re quite fat! Cut the core off of each piece using the crinkle cutter to maintain design theme. Cut straight through instead of making the curved core cut that we’re used to.
  • ⭐️ BONUS TIP: Dunk cut apples into a small bowl of water with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice for 2-3 minutes and they’ll be free of oxidization for hours! Best part: no funky after taste!

Crinkle cutters can be found in most kitchen accessory sections at Target, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Walmart, and occasionally even TJMaxx/Homegoods!

Happy lunch making!
